Who we are

This website is operated by SafetyUnit, a trading name of Ross Macdonald Consultancy Ltd, a company registered in Scotland, company number SC848204, whose registered office is 1st Floor, 2 West Regent Street, Glasgow, G2 1RW. Ross Macdonald Consultancy Ltd is the data controller for personal information handled through this website. You can contact us about anything in this notice at hello@thesafetyunit.co.uk or on 0333 335 6730.

What we collect

The main pages of this website have no user accounts and set no cookies of their own. The personal information we receive through them is limited to whatever you choose to send us when you call or email using the details published here, which is typically your name, contact details, organisation and the content of your enquiry.

The site also hosts our Martyn's Law readiness check. If you complete it, you are asked for your name, email address and organisation, with your role and phone number optional, and your answers are kept with those details. That part of the site has its own privacy notice explaining what is collected, how it is used and how to withdraw consent to marketing emails.

Our hosting provider records standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for the purpose of operating and securing the service. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

We use the information you send us to respond to your enquiry and, where an engagement follows, to deliver our services and administer the client relationship. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in responding to enquiries made to us, and contract where we are taking steps you have asked for before entering an engagement. Marketing emails following the readiness check are sent only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

How long we keep it

Enquiry correspondence that does not lead to an engagement is deleted within a reasonable period. Records connected to client engagements are retained for as long as professional, insurance and legal obligations require, and are then deleted.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who support our business, such as email, form handling and document storage providers, under appropriate safeguards, or where the law requires disclosure.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including the right to request access to it, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to our use of it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details above.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
